Baraje denies claims police were withdrawn in Kwara's local government poll
A former Acting National Chairman of PDP, Abubakar Baraje, has denied claims that police officers were withdrawn from providing security during Saturday’s local government election.
“I can see security men here and there. They are very much around. I was coming from GRA to my family house here and they stopped me in about three or four places,’’ said Baraje.
Baraje also expressed optimism that the PDP would win the election.
“We have done it before, we are still doing it. Kwara State is a unique state that delivers right from the grassroots to the national level for the PDP,” said Baraje.
The Speaker of the Kwara House of Assembly, Rasaq Atunwa, said he was satisfied with the conduct of the election.
Atunwa made the observation at Efue-Berikodo in the Asa Local Government area of the state, after casting his vote.
“I am highly impressed with the turnout of people to cast their votes.”
“I am impressed with the turnout. I am impressed with the good and orderly conduct of the election,” he added.
The speaker also commended the state electoral body for its timely distribution of election materials, which he said, had also contributed to the success of the exercise.
In the same vein, the Kwara Deputy Governor, Peter Kisira, commended KWSIEC for “a job well done.’’
