A man is being held by the police in Kwara State for allegedly manufacturing firearms even as the police have banned the use of fireworks during the festive season.

Adeola Odetoye was arrested in Otte, on the outskirts of Ilorin Monday and Commissioner of Police Agboola Oshodi-Glover said six locally made single barrel guns, eight butts and 13 single barrel pipes for production of dane guns and one expended cartridge were seen in his possession.

But the commissioner said he would not get away with it, and paraded him before journalists in Ilorin yesterday alongside Alabi Olawole, Kabir Sanusi, Atunde Abiola and Yisau Muideen who were also nabbed for armed robbery. Police also seized one black Honda Accord car with registration No. Lagos KM25AAA and one ash coloured Toyota Camry car with registration number Kwara FFA296AE.

The police chief urged youths to comply with the ban on fireworks, saying the command had put  adequate security measures in place to protect lives and property during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. The measures, he explained, include raiding of criminal hideouts, Indian hemp joints, intelligence gathering and swift response to distress calls among others.
