'We make N2,000 profit daily from cannabis sales'

Date: 2013-12-14

Two suspected dealers in cannabis sativa, Mr. Rafiu Shittu, aka Osama, and Mr. Isah Momoh from Sango, Ilorin, Kwara State on Thursday said the sale of cannabis sativa provided them with means of livelihood as they made an average of N2,000 profit daily from the illegal business.

They spoke to PUNCH Metro in Ilorin while being paraded by the police.

Shittu said that he left printing business for the illegal act as everything fell apart after his boss died.

He, however, advised other young people not to take to criminality as means of livelihood.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Agboola Oshodi-Glover, explained the suspects were arrested on Tuesday. He said they were arrested with nine wraps of cannabis sativa.

He added that the police also recovered weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa and two motorcycles that were abandoned by some of the fleeing suspects at some joints at Oke-Oyi and Sango areas following a raid by the operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Oshodi-Glover also said the command arrested five robbery suspects: Alabi Olawole, Kabir Sanusi, Atunde Abiola and Yisau Muideen and recovered from them one black Honda Accord  with number plate, Lagos; KM 25 AAA, and one Toyota Camry car ash colour, marked Kwara, FFA 296 AE.

He added that the command arrested three other armed robbery suspects- Wale Azeez, Abduldatai Isiaka and Qudri Rafiu and recovered from them one black Toyota Corolla marked, Lagos; KSF 621AG.

The commissioner also said the command apprehended a suspect, Adeola Odetoye, for illegally manufacturing fire arms.

He added that the command recovered from Odetoye, six locally-made single-barrelled guns, eight butts and 13 single-barrelled pipes, four dane guns and one expended cartridge.

The CP also said the command made a recovery of a German made P.A.K. Brownie pistol after the police chased some hoodlums around United Secondary School, Taiwo, Isale, Ilorin.

While assuring residents of the state of adequate security during the Yuletide and New Year festivities, he advised the youths to avoid the use of fireworks and bangers, adding that arrested culprits would be prosecuted.

But Odetoye said he did not manufacture some of the guns, but only repaired them for the owners. He, however, admitted that he was not registered for such.
