Saraki's myth broken In Kwara - Kunle Sulaiman

Date: 2014-01-13

The pioneer chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara state, Alhaji Kunle Sulaiman has said the belief in political circles that former governor Bukola Saraki determines who becomes what in the state is a myth that has been broken, saying his defection will not have any effect on the success of the party in Kwara state in 2015.

“When we started PDP, Bukola Saraki was not with us, it was after we won the presidential election with 71 percent  of  the total vote cast in Kwara that they came back and I am assuring you he (Bukola) met us in the party after we have taken over the state”.

The party chieftain who spoke at the party secretariat stated that” Most of Bukola’s father strong supporters are still with the PDP, they have refused to go with him, they are with us”.

He however disagreed that most of the lawmakers in the state have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). “Have they officially defected or you are assuming they have? I want to tell you something about Kwara state, most of the people you see are paper weight, and they are Bukoka’s lackey who cannot change anything in their constituency

“Bukola will never, ever pick anybody who is strong politically that will be able to deliver and challenge him that is why he deliberately dropped those who are strong and picked the weak ones” he added.

He maintained that “Today Bukola will be regretting that he left critical stakeholders out when he was picking candidates for the house of Assembly. We in Kwara we don’t regard the lawmakers as anything, the target is Bukola, take Bukoka out those people cannot do anything, they cannot deliver anything” he said.

On the position of Gbemisola Saraki on the present political realignment in the state, Sulaiman said “First and foremost, Gbemi intend to join us and we are waiting for her. But she has not up till now come back to PDP. She was a member of the PDP, she resigned her membership of the party when she contested the gubernatorial election in 2011 under the ACPN” he said.

“I see Gbemi as somebody that is coming back, but who is yet to join us, because when you see her supporters coming to us, it means she is coming, probably she want to sort certain things out before she come”.
