A lecturer at the Department of Geology, University of Ilorin, Dr. Wasiu Raji, has bagged a Postdoctoral appointment at the Department of Geophysics, Stanford University, USA. The appointment is for one year with effect from January, 2014.

With the appointment, Dr. Raji will join the Stanford Exploration Team to process and analyse cross-well seismic data acquired in a specified oilfield in the US. The research is funded by American oil giant, ExxonMobil. According to Dr. Raji, the appointment was sequel to his participation at the 83rd International Conference of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists held between September 22 and September 27, 2013 in Houston, Texas, where he presented a paper entitled “Enhanced Seismic Q Compensation and its Application to Reflection Seismic Data”.

In a chat with Unilorin Bulletin, the don said, “I see the appointment as a favour from Allah, our Supreme Master, and as an honour to the University of Ilorin. I am optimistic that my appointment at Stanford University will yield beneficial collaboration, in terms of research funding and staff exchange between Stanford University and the University of Ilorin.

“The skill and expertise acquired during the post doctoral studies will help to develop the new Department of Geophysics, which the University is planning to introduce in the 2014/2015 academic session.”
