NEMA sensitises Kwara on flood

Date: 2012-05-02

Kwara State chapter of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) yesterday organized a sensitization programme for flood prone communities in the state.

Addressing the people of Afon in Asa Local Government Area of the state during the sensitization programme, the Director General NEMA, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Sidi said the program was aimed at taking precautions against flood. He said a similar programme would be organized in other parts of the country. Also speaking, the state's Director of Training at the Red Cross, Dr Shuaib Oniyangi advised those in flood prone areas to leave. He warned that reports already available indicate that the state is likely to experience a heavy downpour. Oniyangi appealed to the communities to pay attention to warnings.

Earlier, the Secretary of SEMA, Hajia Salamat Yahaya called on people of the state to avoid building or dumping refuse along the waterways.
