Climate disaster: Kwara to partner NEMA

The Kwara State Emergency and Relief Services is planning to partner with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to intensify efforts to improve disaster Managements in the State.

This is with a view to ameliorating the pains and sufferings of experienced by past disaster victims in the State.

The Special Adviser on Emergency and Relief Services, to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Emergency and Relief Services, Mallam Abdulazeez Ayodeji Ibraheem when he led a combined team of officials of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and members of Kwara State Emergency Management Services (KWASEMA) on an assessment tour to disaster areas in the State The Special Adviser submitted that government could not address challenges in the disaster Management alone and appealed to the private sector, corporate organizations and individuals to collaborate with the State Government in uplifting the living conditions of those affected in various disasters in Kwara State.

Also speaking, leader of the visiting team who is also the zonal coordinator for NEMA operations office in Kwara and Niger States Mr. Slaku Lugard, said they were in the State to robbing minds with the relevant stakeholders and to create awareness, sensitize the people and teach them preventive measures in a disaster situation in the State.

According to him, some disasters were even preventable if prompt appropriate measures such as early detection of disaster situations were taken that would at least help to reduce number of disaster cases in the country.

Areas visited by the assessment team include Mr. Vincent Okafor’s house, along Alh. Taiye street behind New Yidi praying ground Irewole, Ilorin, Baboko Market known as Oja Tuntun and Mrs. Limota Ariyo Compound, Atiku Road, Adewole area Ilorin where materials worth millions of Naira were destroyed by fire.

Similarly, the tour took the team to assess a residential building of one Mr. Mazuma Kawunda in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of the State where 14 rooms and 6 shops were equally burnt down completely.
