NSCDC nabs suspected pipeline vandal in Kwara
The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday paraded a 40-year old Saliu Adisa who was arrested over alleged vandalism of oil pipeline.
The state NSCDC commandant, Mr. Yerima Gana, said the suspect was among some suspected vandals caught destroying a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipeline in the state.
He said the alleged vandals were intercepted by officers on surveillance patrol on Thursday, but they suspects escaped after they were overpowered in exchange gunfire with NSCDC officers.
However, Adisa, a native of Ayekale in Asa Local Government Area of the state was arrested at the scene with a local gun, cutlass, torchlight, a phone and cartridges as well as a Nissan truck with Kwara registration number AA141KEY.
The truck was loaded with 130 and a half of 30-litre jerry-cans already filled with petrol.
The commandant said some vehicle particulars that would lead to the arrest of other suspects were recovered, adding that the suspect would be charged to court soon.
Gana who described the arrest as a milestone in the corps’ efforts at curbing vandals’ activities, urged communities and villages with NNPC pipelines to always supply information to the corps.
