Committee chairman solicits support for PDP in Kwara

Date: 2014-02-25

The Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Peoples' Democratic Party PDP) in Kwara, Mr Solomon Edoja, on Sunday solicited the support of the people of the state for the party.

Edoja made the call in Ilorin, in his address at the reception organised for the committee members and those who just defected to the party.

"The PDP is waxing stronger in the state, as against insinuations that the party is dead with the departure of Sen. Bukola Saraki to the APC, he said.

The politician said the PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu'azu, would be visiting Kwara on March 3 to lend credence to the party's determination to take over the state.

Edoja appealed to chieftains of the party to forget about their individual differences and work as a team in order to continue ruling the state.

"I am hopeful that, with the crowd at this reception, PDP is sure of wining every election in this state, come 2015 and beyond," he said.

Sen. Suleiman Ajadi, Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on National Assembly Matters, expressed optimism that the party would be victorious in the 2015 elections in the state.

"I call on the people of the state to continue to support PDP. I assure them that their welfare is assured under a PDP-led federal government, he said.

Mr Lola Ashiru, a governorship aspirant under the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), said the time had come "for the people of Kwara to be free from APC's oppression".

He said " Kwara will surely be free" with the coming together of prominent politicians in the state under PDP.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that those present at the rally included Sen. Gbemisola Saraki, retired Col. Ademola Lawal, Chief Moses Ibiyemi and Sen. Simeon Ajibola.

Others are Mrs Sarah Jubril, Hon Iliyasu Ibrahim, Prof. Abdulrahman Oba of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hajia Muyinat Sagaya, Mr Dele Belgore, Alhaji Ibrahim Bio and Chief Moses Ibiyemi. (NAN)
