Slain Kwara APC chieftain buried
The remains of a slain 35-year-old politician, Femi Awoyale, were on Tuesday interred in his home town, Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Awoyale, a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress, was killed on February 14 at Topmost Hotel, Oro.
It would be recalled that the management of the hotel had invited the police to maintain law and order at a ceremony holding in the facility.
The deceased was said to be settling a dispute that ensued between some youths when he was hit by a bullet from the gun of one of the police officers.
Speaking at the funeral service, Rev. Fr. Sola Alabi of St. Andrews Catholic Church, Lakale, Oro, urged residents to imbibe the culture of righteousness at all times.
Alabi described death as inevitable, adding that the only consolation was to always do good to prepare the ground for an everlasting life in the hereafter.
He described the deceased as an "honest, easy going and industrious person" who had the love of his people at heart.
Commercial motorcyclists and some youths in their hundreds were sighted wearing black apparels to mourn the deceased.
Among those present at the ceremony were the Chairman of Irepodun Local Government Area, Luqman Owolewa, and the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ilorin, Most Rev. Ayo-Maria Atoyebi.
The spokesman of the police in Kwara State, ASP Ajayi Okasanmi, had said the police officer involved in the incident was undergoing interrogation.
