Kwara moves against indiscriminate dumping of refuse

Date: 2014-03-04

The Kwara Government on Monday approved the constitution of a committee to check indiscriminate dumping of refuse within Ilorin metropolis.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Dr Abdulrazag Amuda, made this known on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin.

Amuda decried the attitude of some residents who engage  in indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

He said  the state government had also approved the provision of 50 roadside bins to accommodate the "voluminous solid wastes'' being generated in Ilorin metropolis.

The official said that five compactors were recently distributed to the approved Waste Management Consultants to ensure a clean and healthy environment.

He urged residents to desist from the illegal act of turning the road setbacks into markets and stalls. (NAN)
